Intumescent paint is a reactive coating, when exposed to high temperature, the fire resistant paint expands in a controlled manner to many times its original thickness, producing a carbonaceous char formed by a large number of small bubbles. The material forms an insulating layer which slows the temperature of the steel rising to a critical level. In ambient conditions the thin coating allows for the steel structures to maintain their usual form rather than being boxed in with a board or covered with fire spray.
What is Intumescent paint?
Intumescent paint, an efficient way to protect structural steel from fire

How does Promat Intumescent paint work?
Cafco SPRAYFILM® WB3 is a water based intumescent coating consisting of polyvinyl acetate resins and fillers for the fire protection of structural steel. During a fire a chemical reaction takes place which causes the coating to swell. This charring effect of the coating absorbs the heat from the fire, slowing the heat transfer into the structural steel.
How do you apply Cafco SPRAYFILM® WB3?
It is preferably spray applied with airless paint equipment for speed and quality of finish. Brush and roller application is also possible to use default global value.

What kind of paint can help in fire prevention?
Intumescent Paint and Vermiculite Sprays are very popular for the use of fire protection of structural steel in Australia. Read our article about the 2 major protective coatings for structural steel.
How long does fire resistant paint last?
It depends of the product/brand and the application. Cafco SPRAYFILM® WB3 provide up to 120/-/- fire resistance in accordance with the requirements of AS 1530: Part 4: 2014 & AS4100.
How to apply Intumescent Paint?
Application methods can vary depending on the product used however it may only be applied by a trained and approved installer and according to the manufacturer instructions – Cafco SPRAYFILM® WB3 is preferably spray applied with airless paint equipment for speed and quality of finish.
