The rafts and modules are available in a range of curved, flat or angled profiles as standard. Bespoke designs can be achieved to realise highly aspirational interiors.Ā  The flexibility of SAS 600 rafts and modules makes them ideal for both new build and retrofit acoustic solutions.

SAS 600 is an acoustic raft or module that is directly suspended from a flat structural soffit or in coffers. The system facilitates free air movement to structural slabs to benefit from natural thermal mass cooling.

SAS 600 Metal Ceiling FAQ

What is the SAS 600 ceiling system?

SAS 600 is a ceiling raft system made from metal panels, designed for aesthetic and acoustic performance. It’s widely used in high-end interiors including education, transport and commercial projects. Available in curved or flat profiles, it can integrate lighting and services for a tailored, functional finish. Progressive Materials recommends SAS 600 for both new build and retrofit acoustic applications.

How does it differ from traditional suspended ceilings?

Unlike standard systems, SAS 600 is a ceiling raft, meaning it doesn’t cover the entire ceiling area. This allows it to provide targeted acoustic treatment while maintaining access to the concrete soffit for natural cross-ventilation or exposed structural aesthetics.

Where is it typically used?

You’ll find SAS 600 in environments where both design and acoustic performance are critical, such as universities, transport terminals and offices. It performs well in both public and private sector projects.

What shapes and sizes are available?

Rafts and modules are available in standard rectangular or curved formats, with sizes ranging from 300mm to 3000mm in length and up to 1200mm in width. Bespoke modules are available on request through the Progressive Materials design team.

What acoustic benefits does the SAS 600 system provide?

SAS 600 supports a wide range of acoustic treatments. Panels typically include a 16mm, 80Kg/m³ mineral wool backing, tissue-wrapped for durability. Systems can achieve absorption levels compliant for schools and can be paired with suspended ceilings for demanding environments.

Can you integrate lighting and services into the system?

Yes. SAS 600 can be pre-manufactured to include LED lighting and other mechanical or electrical services. This makes it a versatile choice for complex environments.

What finishes are available?

The system is offered in all standard SAS finishes. Bespoke coatings and perforation patterns can be specified to align with acoustic or design requirements.

Is SAS 600 suitable for retrofit projects?

Absolutely. SAS 600 rafts and modules are designed for easy installation in both new builds and refurbishments. Their open structure and flexible design make them ideal for upgrades in occupied buildings.

What is the lifespan of SAS 600 ceilings?

The system has a typical life expectancy of 25 years. Steel construction, precision manufacturing, and protective finishes ensure it performs reliably in demanding environments over the long term.

Does SAS 600 meet Australian regulations?

Yes. SAS 600 complies with fire, durability and acoustic standards for commercial environments. Progressive Materials can assist with project-specific compliance information.
