SAS 500 Ceiling FAQ

What is the SAS 500 ceiling system?

SAS 500 is an acoustic baffle ceiling system, sold by Progressive Materials. It is designed to improve sound control and add a modern aesthetic to spaces with exposed soffits. The baffles can be installed in various patterns and colours to suit different project designs.

Where is SAS 500 typically used?

You will often find SAS 500 in education, commercial, and transport settings. It is especially useful in large, open areas where reverberation needs to be managed but a suspended ceiling is not required.

What sizes are available?

Standard baffle lengths include 1200 mm, 1500 mm, and 1800 mm. Baffle depths range from 100 mm to 500 mm, and the standard width is 50 mm. Progressive Materials can also supply bespoke sizes and shapes on request.

How is SAS 500 suspended?

The system is suspended from a primary grid using threaded rods or cable hangers. Linear baffles for long, continuous runs are supplied loose for on-site assembly. Individual baffles arrive ready to install.

What finishes can I choose?

You can select from a full range of standard SAS finishes. If your project requires something different, bespoke finishes are available.

Are perforations available?

Yes, SAS 500 can be manufactured with any standard SAS perforation. Bespoke perforations can also be provided if needed.

Does SAS 500 help with acoustics?

Yes, it offers strong acoustic performance. The baffles typically contain 50 mm deep mineral wool pads to absorb sound. Other acoustic materials are available depending on project needs.

Can lighting be integrated?

Integrated LED lighting can be installed within SAS 500 baffles. This provides a clean ceiling design and helps avoid the need for additional fittings.

How much does SAS 500 weigh?

The system weighs approximately 9.3 kg per linear metre, based on a standard baffle size, plus the supporting grid.

What is the lifespan of the system?

SAS 500 is built for long-term performance, with a typical life expectancy of around 25 years.

Is technical advice available?

Yes. Progressive Materials offers full technical support. Their team can help with product selection, customisation, and installation advice to ensure your project runs smoothly.
