Project Overview

NEXT DC’s P2 Perth, a hyperscale cloud colocation facility located in Perth’s CBD, and provides 10,000 square meters of technical space and 20 Megawatts of power to the West Australian economy.  The data centre is the largest of its type in Western Australia.

Designed by Hames Sharley and built by Multiplex, this unique building lights up the nights sky with NEXTDC corporate colours.   The corporate colour theme continues inside, and the ceiling design uses the colours to create striking features throughout the building.

P2 has been designed with a focus on sustainability, renewable energy, and guaranteed 100% uptime for the onsite assets.

The project has won multiple awards including:

  • 2021 Winner Master Builders Association of Western Australia Excellence in Construction Awards: P2 Perth – Best Project and Excellence in Construction

The challenges

The project had various design challenges which allowed the creativity of the lead architect Hames Sharley to really think out side the box in terms of ceiling design.   Some broad themes which includes corporate colours, edgy lines and for one particular area “Darth Vader”.

Acoustic control was also a requirement, as was a unique service integrated design.   Summary of the challenges:

  • Design a ceiling system with “rhomboid shaped panels”
  • Incorporate corporate colours into the finished designs
  • Seamlessly integrate services into the ceiling, whilst at the same time achieving a high degree of acoustic performance

The Solutions

System 330 was chosen for its ability to be fully customised.   The panels were designed in a rhomboid shape to meet the design teams intent.   SAS330 seamlessly integrates with custom service channels which also act as supports for the removable tiles.  The tiles were supplied in white and black for the various areas.    One of our favourite images is the Black SAS330 with the red neon light in a hallway (Darth Vader).

SAS Mesh was chosen in red and black to continue the corporate coloured themes.  The use of the mesh in the data centre really embraced the industrial tech look the design team was trying to achieve.
