Project Overview

Spanning over 25km of new and upgraded rail, the project delivers world-class connectivity to Perth’s south-east, featuring eight modern train stations, new bus interchanges, and a 7km stretch of activated public space beneath the elevated rail.

A highlight of the project is the new direct connection between the Mandurah Line and Optus Stadium via the Thornlie-Cockburn Line. This provides, for the first time, a seamless route for thousands of fans travelling to major sporting events. This improved link enhances public access to one of Perth’s premier destinations and adds significant resilience to the broader rail network.

Progressive Materials proudly supplied the bespoke architectural ceiling systems across all new stations. Designed to elevate the passenger experience while meeting the demands of high-traffic public spaces, our solutions combined technical performance with aesthetic precision.

The Challenges

Delivering across multiple stations and contractors under tight construction timelines required seamless coordination and flexibility.

Key challenges included:

  • Designing custom-perforated SAS200 aluminium ceiling tiles to align with the architectural vision of each station.
  • Integrating acoustic insulation without compromising aesthetics or access to critical ceiling services.
  • Designing an integrated service channel that seamlessly ties in with the custom ceiling tiles.
  • Managing logistics and supply schedules for a high-volume public infrastructure rollout.

The Solutions

Progressive Materials worked collaboratively with contractors and station architects to supply and deliver a technically robust and visually striking ceiling system tailored to each station’s unique requirements.

  • Custom Engineering: The SAS200 tiles were manufactured with bespoke perforations to meet acoustic targets while enhancing the visual rhythm of each concourse and platform area.
  • Acoustic Performance: Integrated acoustic insulation was specified to reduce reverberation and enhance commuter comfort across open transit zones.
  • System Versatility: The SAS200 system enabled quick on-site adjustments, supporting smooth integration with lighting, security, and HVAC elements.
  • End-to-End Support: Progressive Materials provided technical guidance from specification through to installation, ensuring delivery met tight program milestones.

This transformative project not only advances the future of rail in Perth but also sets a new benchmark in public space design, where infrastructure meets innovation. Progressive Materials is proud to play a part in shaping a more connected and vibrant Western Australia.
