SAS 700 Metal Ceiling FAQ

What is the SAS 700 ceiling system?

SAS 700 is a cost-effective linear metal ceiling designed for high-traffic interior spaces like retail environments. Made from durable steel, it uses a simple clip-on profile that installs quickly and maintains a clean, uniform finish. Progressive Materials recommends it for projects that require excellent value without compromising on aesthetics.

Where is SAS 700 typically used?

This system is ideal for expansive interiors where budget control, durability and smoke extraction are key considerations. You’ll often see it in retail, transport hubs and public buildings with heavy footfall.

What are the key features of the SAS 700 system?

  • Cost-effective steel linear profiles
  • Clip-on installation for efficient fitting
  • Limited void access
  • Suitable for smoke extraction zones
  • Available in standard and bespoke sizes
  • Offered in all standard SAS finishes

What sizes are available for SAS 700 profiles?

Standard profiles are 30mm wide, with depths of either 60mm or 80mm. The standard length is 3000mm, but bespoke lengths and profiles are available on request. Longer runs can be joined with splices for a seamless appearance.

Can you integrate building services with SAS 700?

Yes, but service integration is limited. Services like lighting or HVAC must be mounted separately between the profiles rather than integrated into them. If your project needs complex integration, consider speaking with Progressive Materials’ technical team for advice or alternate systems.

Is SAS 700 easy to install?

The steel profiles clip easily into a carrier system, which reduces installation time and labour costs. Profiles can be cut on-site, but SAS recommends square ends due to the material properties.

What finishes are available?

SAS 700 comes in all standard SAS finishes, with bespoke colours available upon request. This flexibility allows it to meet both aesthetic and functional requirements.

How durable is the system?

The steel construction ensures excellent durability, with a typical life expectancy of 25 years. It’s well-suited for busy commercial settings where longevity is essential.

Is the SAS 700 ceiling system suitable for acoustic control?

SAS 700 is not designed with integrated acoustic infill, so if your project requires high-performance sound absorption, alternative systems like SAS 200 or 740 may be more appropriate.

Does SAS 700 meet Australian building regulations?

Yes. Manufactured by SAS International, the system is designed to meet performance standards for fire safety, durability and structural integrity. Progressive Materials can help confirm compliance for your specific project.
