Metal Pan Ceilings

SAS130 is a suspended metal ceiling system with lay-in modular tiles and exposed grid.

Product Applications

3 Application Types

SAS130 offers either a flush (Alugrid) or tegular (Tee Grid) finish metal ceiling, depending on aesthetic preference. Lay-in tiles are quick to mount and dismount offering simple access to the ceiling void.

The suspended ceiling ingrates seamlessly with both partitioning and signage for hassle free installations (Alugrid Q). The system can also form an airtight seal (with Alugrid Cleanseal) for air management and moisture control applications. Typical applications of SAS130 include commercial offices, data centres and labs.

Advantages:

  • Easy access to ceiling void with no need for tools
  • Exposed grid (SAS Alugrid or SAS Tee Grid suspension method)
  • Can be configured as Open Grid
  • Minimum 25 year product life expectancy

System Features (SAS Alugrid)

  • Shadow gap feature between grid and tile
  • Precise mitred joints
  • Clean flush ceiling plane

System Features (SAS Tee Grid)

  • Distinctive tegular appearance
  • Butt cut junctions to eliminate corner shadows

Material Specifications

What type of ceiling is SAS 130?

SAS 130 is a suspended metal ceiling system with lay-in tiles. It’s available with either a flush or tegular grid finish, offering a clean and modern aesthetic. This makes it a popular choice for commercial offices, labs and data centres.

How does the SAS 130 system provide ceiling access?

SAS 130 tiles are lay-in by design, allowing easy access to the ceiling void. No specialist tools are required to remove or replace tiles, which simplifies ongoing maintenance, servicing or inspection of services above the ceiling.

What grid options are available for SAS 130?

Progressive Materials supplies SAS 130 with a variety of grid types:

  • Alugrid-Q, Alugrid-P, and Cleanseal for a flush finish
  • Tee Grid T15 and T24 for a tegular effect
  • Each grid type supports different module sizes and tile depths, letting you tailor the ceiling to your project’s design intent and functional needs.

What are the standard tile sizes and thicknesses?

The standard module sizes are 500 x 500mm, 600 x 600mm and 750 x 750mm. Tile thicknesses typically range from 8mm, 16mm to 19mm, depending on acoustic and structural requirements. Tile sizes are slightly smaller than the module size to allow easy installation and access.

Is SAS 130 compatible with services like lighting and HVAC?

Yes. SAS 130 tiles can be pre-formed with apertures during manufacturing to accommodate lighting, sprinklers, air diffusers and other ceiling-mounted services. These apertures are post-painted for a clean finish that matches the rest of the system.

What finishes and perforations are available?

SAS 130 is available in all standard Progressive Materials finishes. Bespoke finishes can be specified if required. The most common perforation patterns include 1522, 1820, and 2516, with others available on request. Perforations are typically paired with acoustic pads for sound control.

What acoustic options are offered?

SAS 130 supports a range of acoustic treatments. Standard options include 8mm, 16mm, or 19mm mineral wool pads (80kg/m³ density) with black tissue facing, foil backing and sides. This provides sound absorption ratings between Class A–D and insulation performance from 15–45dB, depending on the configuration.

Can SAS 130 be used in high-spec environments?

Yes. The Cleanseal Alugrid-P option creates an airtight seal between the tile and grid, preventing dust ingress. This is ideal for controlled environments like labs or data centres. Additionally, the system allows for easy relocation of partitions and hanging of signage using its M6 thread form.

What is the weight of SAS 130 tiles?

Tile weights vary based on thickness:

  • 8mm tiles weigh approximately 5kg/m²
  • 16mm tiles weigh around 7.5kg/m²
  • 19mm tiles weigh up to 10.75kg/m²

The system can also support additional point or distributed loads up to 3kg, but for heavier items, an independent suspension should be used.

What kind of projects is SAS 130 suitable for?

SAS 130 is a versatile solution suited to commercial offices, education spaces, data centres and laboratories. Its ease of access, acoustic performance and seamless integration with services make it a practical choice for both new builds and refurbishments.

Can module sizes or tile shapes be customised?

Yes. Progressive Materials can work with architects and designers to create bespoke modules or shaped tiles for project-specific requirements. Their SAS Plus design service allows you to collaborate directly with the in-house technical team.

How long is the product lifecycle?

The SAS 130 system is designed for longevity. When installed correctly with full system components, it comes with a 25-year life expectancy. This includes the grid, tiles, acoustic backing and suspension fixings.
