The Challenges
Hospitals rely on uninterrupted operation of essential services such as electrical, communication, and control systems, even during fire events. Ensuring these systems remain functional for the full fire-resistance period required a solution that could:
- Maintain lower internal temperatures than standard fire enclosures
- Withstand intense thermal loads for up to two hours
- Comply with stringent AS 3013:2005 and AS 1530.4:2014 Section 12 testing standards
- Integrate seamlessly within the complex service pathways of a hospital environment
The Solutions
Promat PROMASIL 1100 was selected for its lightweight composition, low thermal conductivity, and proven fire-performance credentials. The system was installed by Property Fire Maintenance as part of a two-hour Circuit Integrity solution, protecting vital electrical circuits from failure under fire conditions.
Through extensive testing to AS 3013:2005 and AS 1530.4:2014 Section 12, PROMASIL 1100 demonstrated the capability to maintain circuit functionality by keeping internal enclosure temperatures below critical limits.
This performance ensures that essential life-safety systems, including alarms, emergency lighting, and communication lines, remain operational long enough to support evacuation and fire-response operations.
The completed installation at SJOG Midland Hospital provides a fully compliant, tested, and durable solution for protecting critical infrastructure. By incorporating PROMASIL 1100 into the design, the project team achieved confidence in the safety and resilience of the building’s essential services -supporting St John of God Health Care’s ongoing commitment to operational excellence and community wellbeing.
