The Challenges
The fit-out project needed a new design to incorporate the existing essential services and other elements in place in the building and create a unique and comfortable shopping experience for Beds N Dreams customers. To save on the cost of relocating the building services, the existing essential services and ventilation system needed to remain in place and be easily accessible for maintenance. The new ceiling system needed to allow for easy service integration.
Open Cell Metal Ceiling with a unique look
The Solutions
SAS 800 Open Cell Ceiling Panels manufactured by SAS International were supplied for the fit-out at Beds N Dreams in Beckenham.
The open ceiling space concept responds to people’s natural need for space and freedom. This retail project in Perth specified the open cell metal ceiling not just for its unique look, but also to meet fire and mechanical standards. The open ceiling was suspended below the sprinklers and ventilation system. The ceilings open design enabled the required compliance, while also saving on the cost of relocating the building services to below ceiling height.
The SAS 800 System was chosen as a feature for the new fit-out for a number of performance reasons including:
- Service Integration: Light panels were able to be installed directly into the grid without modification
- Essential Services: Sprinkler systems already installed in the building were able to be left in place, due to the open cell ceiling panels meeting the required % of open area required under the NCC.
- Ventilation: Due to the open cell feature of the SAS 800 ceiling, the existing ventilation was able to remain in place which eliminated the need to alter the existing system
